    Responsibilities

    NCI: As a Statistician IV, you will lead the design, development, implementation and review of statistical methods and techniques for the evaluation and analysis of numerical data using computer software. In assuming this position, you will be a critical contributor to meeting NCI AdvanceMed's mission: To provide services to our clients that exceed their expectations and contribute to improved healthcare delivery by identifying and eliminating fraud, waste and abuse.  

    • Leads the design, development, implementation and review of statistical methods and techniques for the evaluation and analysis of numerical data using computer software
    • Ensures compliance with clients’ requirements, costs and time constraints for assigned projects
    • Oversees the development, execution and review of algorithms, models and projects
    • Leads the design, development, implementation and review of innovative analytical approaches and predictive modeling techniques for reactive or proactive data analysis, statistical modeling, data mining, sampling, study design, and quality assurance and control
    • Provides statistical expertise in the areas of methodologies, principles, approaches, processes, procedures, concepts, techniques, and units of scope to assigned projects
    • Leads the development and review of Algorithm Finding Reports, Model Finding Reports and Project Finding Reports
    • Designs and implements quality assurance and quality control processes and procedures
    • Drives the design and review of statistical methods and procedures, identification of limitations within the data, review of data analysis results, and the resolution of issues associated with existing code and/or methodologies
    • Oversees the development of trend reports, data collection methods, and sample size requirements
    • Leads the organization of statistical results to ensure that all facets of data collection and interpretation meet the client’s specifications
    • Trains, mentors and transfers expert statistical and industry knowledge to Statisticians
    • Participates in meetings/conferences with all parties associated with the task order
    • Ensures that all Statisticians comply with the Company’s confidentiality and security guidelines, documentation and reporting requirements, and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable
    • Leads research initiatives to ensure that the most appropriate statistical techniques and/or methods are utilized for the industry, as applicable
    • Develops and implements targeting protocols for identifying statistical outliers
    • Testifies at hearings and trials as a expert witness regarding statistical overpayment estimation methodology as required
    • Establishes, implements and/or reviews and revises, as needed, a quality assurance checklist to ensure compliance with Company policies, processes, procedures and quality assurance and ISO standards
    • Complies with customer requirements, as well as with department, state and federal policies and procedures
    • Works with colleagues across task orders and managers and colleagues within the task order to meet innovative and ongoing project needs
    • Performs other duties as needed and assigned

    Qualifications

    Experience and Education Required:

    •  Master’s degree in statistics or related discipline, PhD preferred.
    •  Minimum of ten years of experience using statistics with demonstrated experience and knowledge of health care information, for example health claims data, ICD-9/10-CM codes, physician specialty codes, survey and certification data, and provider/supplier identifiers.
    •  Experience in statistical detection of potential fraud and abuse, using tools such as predictive modeling, development of mathematical models, neural networks, and data mining or other analytical methods.

     

     

    Preferred Education and Experience:

     

    • Knowledge of MS Excel, SAS, SQL and/or other applications to perform various types of data analysis
    • Experience conducting Statistical sampling and extrapolations to support overpayment determination in Medicare and/or Medicaid
