    Responsibilities

    NCI: As a Network Administrator (Network Administrator II), you will provide network administration support for 24x7 Network .  Plans schedules and arranges own activities to accomplish work objectives.  Work is typically reviewed upon completion.  Receives general instructions on newly introduced assignments. Possesses complete acquaintance with and understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job.  Is able to apply job knowledge to solve problems and address situations ordinarily encountered. Solves a variety of complex problems and may refer to established precedents and policies to determine methods and sequence of work. Maintains contact with individuals representing other areas and/or outside organizations to obtain or provide information or data requiring some explanation or interpretation and/or resolve complex problems or on matters of moderate importance that may be sensitive in nature.  Refers highly complex or unusual problems to senior levels or to management. In assuming this position, you will be a critical contributor to meeting NCI's mission: To deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions and services that enable our customers to rapidly adapt to dynamic environments.

     

     

    Highlights of Responsibilities:

     

    • Supports a 24×7 Network Operations Center
    • Reviews network system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested program or program change is possible within existing system
    • Provides second-tier problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems
    • Serve as a technical specialist responsible for the monitoring, operation and management, troubleshooting and restoration of service of any component comprising the DoD Information Network (DoDIN) associated IP networks. These include data/voice communications equipment, routers, crypto devices, routing, network appliances, etc
    • Remote Troubleshooting for servers
    • Perform pro-active monitoring of network element alarms and alerts to identify those components/elements that may lead to or already are causing network degradation or failure.
    • Accomplishes this through the use of network management system(s) and associated assets on a continuous (rotating shift) basis. Performs fault isolation, diagnostic, and assessment functions to include determination and execution of corrective action(s) on real-time basis.
    • Interface with functional users as well as remote operations centers in both routine and reactive monitoring situations.
    • Maintain logs and records associated with reported problems or situations
    • Document processes and procedures and update existing documents
    • Execute all reporting functions and data input associated with network management.
    • Monitor security posture of network(s); reports suspected violations to designated authority.
    • Coordinate with configuration management and implementation entities to ensure optimum dissemination of information and network efficiency.
    • Performs operator level maintenance on all components and assets associated with network management systems
    • Help Desk coordination, forwarding, processing, and data entry
    • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Coordinates installation of or installs communications lines
    • Enters diagnostic commands into computer to determine nature of problem and reads codes on screen to diagnose problem
    • Supports the installation, implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of agency wide-area networks (WANs) and local-area networks (LANs)
    • Provides support to network including day-to-day operation, monitoring and problem resolution
    • Supports the escalation and communication of status to management and customers
    • Uses backup and recovery tools and techniques
    • Familiar with information assurance, including Continuity-of-Operations-Plan (COOP)
    • Documents problem resolution and task completion
    • Plans and prepares technical reports, memoranda, and instructional manuals as documentation of program development
    • Provides network support to operational computer networks
    • Assembles and configures network components and associated services
    • Sets up and maintains basic network operations, including assembly of network hardware, and provides assistance to the network administrator
    • Performs network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common network problems
    • Upgrades network hardware and software components as required
    • Installs, upgrades and configures network printing, directory structures, rights, security, software and files services
    • Provides users with network technical support
    • Responds to needs and questions of users concerning their access of network resources
    • Establishes network users, user environments, directories, and security for networks being installed
    • Installs and tests necessary software and hardware

    Qualifications

    Requirements:

    • Bachelors degree or equivalent and 2+ yrs IT experience
    • Active Top Secret clearance with a SCI eligibility
    • 8570 certification; IAT Level 2; Security+ or equivalent
    • Technical experience utilizing monitoring tools (e.g., SCOM, and Solar Winds)
    • Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office suite – Excel, Word, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint

     

     

    Preferred Education and Experience: 

    • Prior experience supporting DoD networks
    • Experience working in large network environments including switching, routing, Firewall and load balancing.
