    NCI: As a Senior SQL Database Analyst Subject Matter Expert (Database Administrator II) you will provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems, determining and developing approaches to solutions for all supported databases. You will be responsible for all activities related to the administration of computerized databases with minimal supervision to ensure high availability of mission critical applications. In assuming this position, you will be a critical contributor to meeting NCI's mission: To deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions and services that enable our customers to rapidly adapt to dynamic environments.



    Highlights of Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for all activities related to the administration of computerized databases
    • Proactively maintain databases across multiple locations to ensure high availability of mission critical applications
    • Ability to efficiently resolve issues is critical
    • Creation, configuration, update, and dropping of databases and data structures and schemes with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and 2014
    • Defining security and integrity checks
    • Developing, integrating, and maintaining procedures for efficient database and data backup,recovery, and restoration based on program provided application requirements
    • These are including but not limited to always-on and availability groups
    • Monitoring and adjusting database size against performance and storage capacity
    • Optimization and performance tuning for queries, indexes, procedures, scripts, and caches to improve database response/retrieval time and data loading efficiency
    • Developing procedures to extract, transform, and load data among databases
    • Loading and migrating data
    • Implementing updates and fixes
    • Performance tuning and optimization
    • Confers with and advises subordinates on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities and methods
    • Consults with and advises users of the various databases
    • Projects long-range requirements for database administration in conjunction with other managers in the information systems function
    • Prepares activity and progress reports regarding the database management section



    • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
    • At least eight (8) years of overall IT experience
    • Master's degree with 3 - 5 yrs DBA experience or; Bachelors degree with 5 - 7 yrs of DBA experience or; High School diploma with 7+ yrs DBA experience
    • Current Information Assurance (IA) certification (required at performance start date): DoD 8570 IAT Level II (CCNA Security, SySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP), or higher
    • Current Computing Environment (CE) certification (required at performance start date): MCSA, MCSE, or eight (8) years of equivalent experience in lieu of certification


    Preferred Education and Experience:

    • SME experience in SQL Database Administration
    • Microsoft IIS/Apache Server Experience
    • Azure SQL managed instances
    • Recent SQL server database design and development experience
