    Responsibilities

    NCI: As an HRIS Specialist,  you will under limited supervision develop, implement, administer and maintain systems and procedures enabling our foundational Human Resources and Human Capital data. You will join an HR team committed to meeting the needs of our government and commercial customers, the needs of our internal employees, and your own needs for personal and career growth. In assuming this position, you will be a critical contributor to meeting NCI's mission: To deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions and services that enable our customers to rapidly adapt to dynamic environments.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS BY LEVEL:

     

     

    HRIS SPECIALIST II

    • Develops, implements, updates, and maintains Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) - including open enrollment, performance reviews, and merit compensation on an annual basis
    • Recommends department and organizational needs for Workday HCM implementation or upgrades
    • Researches costs for development, implementation, and maintenance of Workday HCM for presentation to management
    • Installs and extensively tests new Workday configurables upon new releases
    • Writes and installs program to convert data onto new system or manages data input into system
    • Develops, updates, and modifies codes, tables, reports, and other systems applications
    • Provides system maintenance to ensure continued efficiency, and resolves software and or database conflicts
    • Develops and maintains security system for Workday access
    • Recommends system design changes and upgrades based on efficiency of current system and user needs
    • Researches new technologies related to human resources and keeps management informed
    • Able to assimilate new systems quickly and eager to learn and support overlapping technology systems as necessary
    • Facilitates leadership data development and presentation as necessary

     

    HRIS SPECIALIST III

    • Leads development, implementation, maintenance, and coordination of computerized Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) - including open enrollment, performance reviews, and merit compensation on an annual basis
    • Determines scope of Workday HCM system by consulting with human resources executives and other management to ascertain organizational needs for human resources-related information
    • Lead configuration of compensation, staffing, talent, and benefits processes and procedures
    • Maintain and troubleshoot integrations between Workday and other systems
    • Researches HCM/HRIS vendors to determine if market products match organization needs and budget
    • Installs and extensively tests new Workday configurables upon new releases
    • Designs system specifications and works with programmers to develop Workday HCM and similar HR systems that use Workday Data 
    • Prepares progress reports to inform management of project status and deviation from goals
    • Oversees extensive testing of system, conversion of data onto Workday HCM, and implementation of new system and integrations with other systems and locations
    • Monitors Workday HCM system and all integrations to ensure they function properly
    • Contracts with management specialists, technical personnel, or vendors to solve problems
    • Trains department and organizational staff on system access and utilization
    • Maintains systems to ensure efficient operations, processing, and report generation
    • Determines when and how to upgrade system to meet changing user and organizational needs
    • Able to assimilate new systems quickly and eager to learn and support overlapping technology systems as necessary
    • Works to maintain and develop other HR employees in their skillset and usage of HR Data
    • Facilitates leadership data development and presentation as necessary

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent related experience
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Previous experience directly managing an HCM/HRIS system in administrative capacity, preferrably Workday HCM
    • Moderate to Strong Excel knowledge to manage exported data (extensive VLOOKUP at a minimum)

     

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED BY LEVEL:

    • II: 2 – 7 Years
    • III: 4 – 9 Years

     

     PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Workday HCM experience at an admin level
    • Experience configuring, managing, and communicating during major HRIS cycle events such as Benefits Open Enrollment, Performance, Merit
    • Ability to think about and communicate data in the context of solving business problems

    This position requires the ability to perform the below essential functions:
