    NCI: As a mid-level software developer, you will support, maintain, and provide the full spectrum of development life cycle activities for mission critical applications for a prestigious agency within the Federal government, working both independently and on a small team. You will also assist with the modernization effort of these applications. This position is located in Washington, D.C. and is metro accessible.


    Highlights of Responsibilities:

    • Support and enhance all components and processes related to the publication of a crucial, complex government document
    • Analyze and transform XML to conform to document type definitions and XML schemas
    • Conduct requirements-gathering sessions with end-users to ensure application procedures are properly implemented and maintained
    • Enhance applications to improve performance and add functionality
    • Test, debug, and refine applications to produce various required products
    • Investigate options for replacing legacy applications with web applications
    • Monitor nightly production jobs to ensure that jobs run smoothly; handle production problems and issues
    • Develop and support tools and services for adding jobs to the nightly schedule
    • Prepare comprehensive documentation


    • At least 5 years of software development experience
    • Extensive knowledge of XML technology and stylesheets including XSL, XSLT, and XSL-FO
    • Experience in Java, ExtJS JavaScript library, Ruby on Rails, C++, and PERL programming languages
    • Highly motivated; ability to work with little supervision
    • Professional, client-ready written and oral communication skills
    • U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance



    Preferred Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline
    • Knowledge of SQL and relational databases
    • Proficient UNIX/Linux system knowledge including shell scripts
    • Familiarity with Saxon and RenderX engines
