    NCI: As an Electo-Optical (EO) Engineer, you will work with NCI supporting the Program Manager Soldier Sensors and Lasers (PM SSL) program, providing Soldiers with improved lethality, mobility, and survivability in all weather and visibility conditions. Sensor and laser systems developed by PM SSL provide critical, on-the-ground direct support to U.S. forces. Soldier-borne sensors and lasers enhance the Soldier's ability to see in all battlefield and lighting conditions, to acquire objects of military significance before the Soldier is detected, and to target threat objects accurately for engagement by Soldiers or guided munitions. The NCI team helps the Government develop and acquire body-mounted, head-worn, and weapon system sensors and lasers to enhance battlefield domination and man-portable precision targeting systems (locators and designators) for the Joint Force Forward Observer, Joint Terminal Attack Controller, and range finders for snipers, scouts and infantry, Military Police, and other Soldiers for use across the full spectrum of operations. Our EO Engineers provide technical support and analysis in evaluation of sensor prototypes and systems, to include thermal imagers and lasers, to PEO Soldier Project Manager (PM) partners. In assuming this position, you will be a critical contributor to meeting NCI's mission: To deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions and services that enable our customers to rapidly adapt to dynamic environments.



    Highlights of Responsibilities:                                                  

    • Evaluates design efforts to ensure integration of all the engineering disciplines and adequacy of the analyses performed, and optimize size, weight, and power, with cost (SWaP-C).
    • Serve as consultant to other team members and mentor workforce on electro-optic system development, prototyping, integrating, and testing electro-optic sensor systems.
    • Participate in post awards, program reviews, design reviews, and IPTs as the project engineer and/or technical expert on assigned programs.
    • Review test plans, procedures, and reports for technical adequacy on assigned programs, for both Government and contractor tests, as well as all failure reports. 
    • Conduct and/or monitor lab, contractor, and field testing to assess system performance and compliance with requirements.
    • Evaluate system performance against specification requirements and assess risk of meeting user and specification requirements. 
    • Initiate and review engineering change proposals and waivers/deviations for technical merit, and conducts physical and functional configuration audits.
    • Analyze and investigate failures or performance issues to ensure the appropriate and complete root cause corrective action is identified, validated, and implemented in all product as required.
    • Recommend approaches to implement electro-optic system level components into prototypes capable of achieving user requirements.
    • Coordinate R&D efforts with DoD, National Labs, and appropriate international forums to leverage resources.
    • Make recommendations, present and conduct demonstrations to senior level Government and industry personnel at the program manager, SES, and General Officer levels.
    • Review program management documents to ensure accuracy and adequacy of technical content.
    • Develop and maintains technical documentation such as specifications, engineering drawings, system interface requirements, and engineering changes.



    • Bachelors Degree in Electrical and/or Optics Engineering or equivalent, and five (5) years of relevant experience.
    • Active DoD Secret Clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
    • Equivalent certification or experience commensurate with the DAWIA Level III SPRDE certification.
    • Must possess the breadth of experience and knowledge, and recognition in the Electro-optic Engineering community, to lead engineering efforts on assigned programs, and work independently with minimal oversight from the Government Lead.
